Who we are

PanamaPlay helps you discover which movies and shows you can stream on the services you already have. PanamaPlay is available as an app and as a website. Questions about this policy? Email privacy@panamaplay.com.

What data we process

Without an account: your chosen region and streaming services (stored on your own device), an anonymous device id, and the ratings you give to movies.
With an account: additionally your name, email address, password (encrypted), friendships and the comments you post.
Usage: anonymous events (such as "app opened" or "search performed") to improve the product, and crash reports to fix errors.
Live curator limits use pseudonymous account/device IDs, hashed IP counters for guests/free accounts, session IDs and reserved/confirmed duration. These records contain no audio and are kept for up to three months. Account deletion unlinks your usage; shared abuse-prevention counters remain until their retention period ends.
Searches: what you type to find something is processed to show results.

What we use it for

Showing movies that are available on your streaming services.
Understanding searches and improving recommendations (based on your ratings).
Searching together with friends: friends see which services you have, not what you watch.
Keeping the community healthy (reviewing reported comments, applying blocks).

On the website we only use first-party analytics, without third-party trackers, and only after you have given consent via the notice at the bottom of the page.

Viewing progress, taste matches and movie nights

You can save your last watched episode. Taste matching is on by default for new accounts; an earlier off preference is kept, and you can turn it off at any time in your privacy settings. Only when neither user has turned it off do we show aggregate rating similarity, never individual films or scores. Movie-night participants share their display name, votes and viewing conditions within the room. Rooms expire after 24 hours; their data is removed within the following hour. AI processes episode descriptions for recaps; account details are not sent for this purpose.

Mobile advertisements

Free adult profiles may see non-personalized Google AdMob ads. Google may process IP addresses, device identifiers, ad interactions and diagnostics for ad delivery, measurement and fraud prevention. Where required, we request consent through Google before loading ads. Review your choices via Profile → Privacy → Ad privacy choices whenever that button is available. We do not send search prompts, ratings or account details in ad requests. Premium and child profiles do not receive Google ads. Product analytics consent is separate.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We use these service providers to make PanamaPlay work:

TMDB (movie information), Movie of the Night and Watchmode (availability) and YouTube (trailers).
Stripe (payments and subscriptions on the website).
RevenueCat, together with Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play), for in-app subscriptions.
Expo, with Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging, for push notifications.
OpenAI (processing search queries and comments for search and spoiler detection, and summarizing public comments; relevant text is shared without account details as separate fields).
Sentry (crash reports).

We may share aggregated, anonymised statistics that cannot be traced back to individuals (for example search trends, click-through rates and average ratings per country) with film studios and streaming services.

Watching always happens at the streaming service itself; from the moment you click through, their privacy policy applies.

Retention and your rights (GDPR)

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account); your data, comments and friendships are then erased.
Without an account you can erase the app data by deleting the app.
You have the right to access, correct and delete your data. Email us for that.
You can file a complaint with your data protection authority.
